Recruiting a yacht chef on the Côte d'Azur

Antibes is the densest crew market in yachting. Port Vauban sits at the centre of it, and within a few streets you have the largest concentration of available superyacht chefs anywhere in the world. That is an advantage and a problem at once: there is no shortage of CVs, but volume is not the same as quality, and a chef who interviews well in a café on Rue Aubernon is not necessarily a chef who holds up on day nine of a back-to-back charter.

We recruit here the way a chef would. Dean works the Med season himself, which means references get checked through people who have actually stood next to the candidate in a galley — not just the name written on a CV. For a Riviera brief that usually means we can put a vetted shortlist in front of you within 48 hours, and often have chefs available for a trial the same week.

Where we place

Antibes and Port Vauban, Golfe-Juan, Cannes, Villefranche, Nice, Saint-Tropez and along to Monaco. Most Riviera-based vessels we work with are cruising the French and Italian coast, the Balearics, Corsica and Sardinia through the summer.

What a French Riviera brief usually needs

Med-season stamina

Back-to-back charters, late guest changes, and provisioning across three countries in a fortnight. We screen hard for chefs who have genuinely done a full Med season, not one charter.

European provisioning

A chef who knows the Antibes and Marché Forville suppliers, can deal with Italian and Spanish deliveries, and controls cost without the food showing it.

Certification in order

ENG1, STCW and Food Safety verified before a name reaches your shortlist. Ship's Cook Certificate where the flag state requires it.

Short-notice cover

Riviera briefs are frequently urgent. Temporary and charter cover is a core part of what we do, including chefs who can join within days.

Fees for Riviera placements

You choose per role: a fixed €2,500 all-in placement fee, or a success fee of one month's salary payable only when you hire. Short-term and charter cover of 90 days or fewer is charged at 33.3% of total salary paid, minimum €500. Every search includes 7 days of exclusive attention and a 60-day replacement guarantee.

Under MLC 2006 Standard A1.4 we never charge chefs a fee. Our terms are governed by French law, with jurisdiction at the Commercial Court of Nice — which matters if your vessel or management company is French-domiciled.

"Dean moved quickly, finding both a full-time crew chef and securing a temp head for a charter. The top in the industry in my experience."— Captain Clinton Roos, 63m M/Y SuRi
